Introduction (brief description of area literature)
Literature consists of the written
works especially those considered of superior or lasting artistic merit
.literature acts as a form of expression for each individual author. Some
books mirror society and allow us to better understand the world we live in.
Literature, in fact, is a reflection of humanity and way for us to understand
each other.
Rafiabad is one of the beautiful
areas of Baramulla district .The area is surrounded by the beautiful mountain
ranges. These mountains have lush green meadows, dancing brooks; evergreen
forests and beautiful tourist destination all around .The inhabitants of the
area have every reason to be more sentimental and more poetic in their
expressions. It is probably the natural beauty of the area that Rafiabad has
given birth to dozens of poets and writers. The area is subdivided in three
tehsils. These are Rohama, Dangiwacha, and Watergam.
List of the prominent writers of
Rafiabad
A brief list of the remarkable writers of the area
is worth presenting here .They are:

Each of these writers have their own
style of writing and they all are genre specific .The major portion of their writings consist of Sufi flavor
poetry ,ghazal writing ,and writing of the conventional poems. There is,
however, a small portion of writings related to prose.
Among the published poets there are
Wahab Akash, Ahmad Dar Ladoora ,Shahnaz Rashid, Shabir Ahmad Shabir, and Nisar
Azam .
Nisar Azam has won youth award for his
maiden poetry collection. Tariq Ahmed Tariq is the second writer only
after Shabir Ahmad shabir in whole Rafiabad
area who writes prose and publishes his essays ,short stories, and book reviews in local newspapers
and literary magazines .He writes critical essays in Kashmiri language, and
Short stories in English language .He has ,however, his dominant
expertise at writing Kashmiri ghazal .
Rafiabad is very rich in Literature,
and literary meets are often organized by Rafiabad Adbi markaz, the only
literary organization of the area.

Brief Description of The above enlisted books
1.Shahnama Islam (Kashmiri) شاہنامہ اسلام is Kashmiri translation in poetry by Shabir Ahmad Shabir .
2.Dood Katith Guldaanan Manzz and
Dur pahan Deevaran Mannzدود کھٹتھ گلدانن منز،دور پہن
دیوارن منز poetry books have
been written by Shahnaz Raheed .
3.Ham Sab Baitche ہم سب بچے is the collection of children poems
written by Hassan Azhar.
Hassan
Azhar lives in Baharampora .He is presently senior lecturer Urdu, and posted in
HSS Sopore
4.Pat Lejj Zoon Darss پتہ لج زون درس is Kashmiri ghazal collection by Nisar Azam.
This book has earned him the
Sahitya Academy youth award The poet resides in Dangiwacha, and works
in J&K civil secretariat.
5.Meyani Sukhan and Tanqeedi Mazameen میآنی سخن، تنقیدی مضامین are
two books under Publication. These two books have been written by Tariq Ahmed
Tariq .
Meyani Sukhan(My poetic pursuits)
is a book which comprises of one hundred plus gazals.The book has a great flavor
and has a power to build strong bonds with the reader. This
is a must read book.
Tanqueedi Mazameen (critical
Essays) has the honor of being only prose book compiled by any author of the
area. The writer from the book contains critical essays on some prominent poets
and critics of J&K .The essays include-
1.The critical appreciation of
seven poems of Dr Rafiq Musoodi.
2.The critical appreciation of
the poetic collection “Lajawaab” by
Fayaz Tilgami.
3.The critical appreciation of the
book “Aena Khana”by Dr Aziz Hajni.
4.The critical appreciation of The
Kashmiri poetry of Ali shaida.
5.The critical appreciation and
analysis of the poetry of Ali Muhammad Shahbaz.
Tariq Ahmad Tariq has also written
a dozen of short stories which have been published in local newspapers, but the
compiled book is yet to come to the market.
Tariq Ahmad Tariq lives in
Bahrampora Rafiabad. He is master by profession in school education department
J&K.
6.Tamas(تمس)is the translation
work of a famous hindi novel. Its translator is Dr Rafiq Masoodi
Dr Rafeeq Masoodi is retired
Additional Director General of Doordarshan.He is from Dangiwatcha.
Rafiabad is,beyond all doubts, very
fertile for writing poetry and prose. There are some small literary forums as well
which often organize literary meets, and it is expected that the local poets and
writers will keep mesmerizing the people with their poems, short stories, and
other genres of Kashmiri literature .writers are by all means great assets for every society, and we expect that
their work is appreciated and their contribution acknowledged by the local
population in future as well.

Brief Introduction of area Specific traditional singing in different Languages
Area of Study: Rafiabad Baramulla
Kashmir has a rich legacy of
classical and modern musicians. Our parents would listen the sufiyana and
Chakri with great excitement and reverence to the art. Now the trend has
changed. Fast track music is replacing the age old styles of singing.It is
because of the tastes of the music lovers that Rouf, Wanwun ,and ladi Shah
carved a permanent place foe themselves in Kashmiri musical cult.The musicians
do not fear to try upon the novel styles of music. There are, age old musical
instrument still in place which muscians love to play even today.These
instruments include
Harmonium,Rubab,Sarangi,Santoor,Nout,and Tumaknaer.
Rafiabad area of Baramulla district
has given birth to some of the legendary musicians of Kashmir who has brought
laurels to not only to the are abut to the whole state in the area of music. Their
name and fame have defied all the geographical boundaries. They remain part and
parcel of government functions, marriage ceremonies, Sufi mehfils, and local
festivals.

1.GH Nabi Bulbul (Born:1949)
is popularly known as Hamli Bulbul.He has
earned a respectable name for mesmerizing the people of the valley with his art.His
career spans on six long decades now. He plays sarangi and in his youthful days
he would love doing dance performance as well.he has won many international and
national awards. He is from Batsuma village of Rafiabad.Some of his famous sons
include –

2.Manzoor
Ahmad Shah (Age:55)
is an
A+ category singer registered with Prasad Bharti and Door Darshan. He is one
among the top most rated musicians of j&k. He plays Harmonium and
Sarangi.He has sung thousands of super hit Kashmiri songs. He is the most loved
Kashmiri singer across all the religious communities of J&K. He is from Batsuma village of Rafiabad. He has
won countless awards on international and national level. He has been
mesmerising the people for past 35 years .Some of his famous song include_

3.Mohammad
Subhan Shah(Age:45 ) 
plays Harmonium,sarangi
and Nout.On special occasion he does also perform dance.He has sung hundreds of
songs. He lives in Batsuma village of Rafiabad. One of his famous songs is-

4.Khursheed Ahmad Shah (Age :35)plays Harmonium,sarangi and Nout.His
melodious voice and sargam has earned hi, a great name in youth of j&K.he
is also from Batsuma village of Rafiabad.
5. Mohammad
Altaf Malla (Age :45)
Plays Harmonium. He has
sung scores of super hit songs. He is from Behrampora Village of Rafiabad.
6. Mohammad
Iqbal Shah (Age : 22 ) 
Plays Harmonium and performs dance shows.He is
from Batsuma village of Rafiabad.
7. Mushtaq
Ahmad Shah (Age : 35) plays
Harmonium .He is also from Batsuma village.
8. Gulzar
Ahmad Shah (Age:25)
Plays Harmonium. He has become youth icon in
the area for his melodies. He too is from Batsuma village. He has sung one of
the area specific songs whose lyrics are given here-

The people of Rafiabad
have special inclination towards music. The small hamlet Batsuma cherishes the
music more than everything else. Music flows in the breath and veins of its sons.
The youth of this small hamlet showcase their talent in the every nook and
corner of the state. It is thus safe to predict that this beautiful region of
Baramulla district will always let the head of the whole district high in
musical pursuits. The gifted musicians of Rafiabad will keep on mesmerising the
hearts and souls of people for ages.
